I switched to R5A16 when I separated out my main box into a frontend and a backend box. I also wanted to try LVM which is working beautifully.

What really is bothering me is only one of my HD3000 cards is working. I swappped the order on the pci bus, removed one and then the other, changing pci slots, and everything is great. My backend box just won't tune on the second installed HD3000.

I am using the dvb drivers. I went thought through the wiki:R5A16_HD-3000_HOWTO and the first tuner works fine. When I try to press y when watching live tv to switch cards I get the 15 second wait and get kicked back into the menu(when recording two shows, only one works). Mythfrontend gives me the error about not being able to connect to the ring buffer, but the backend log gives me
Code:

When I try to do a channel scan from mythtv-setup on the dvb card 1 I can't tune any channels. I get a LOCK, but it timeouts. I have looked at all the posts about no PIDs, to no avail, yes I have set up a vaild channel as the default or startup channel.

when I try dvbscan -a 0 -c I get the subchannel info, but when I do it for the second card I get nothing.

Basically it's like the backend knows the card it there, but it just won't use it.

Am I missing anything extra for setting up two dvb cards

A little info about the backend:
nforce2 motherbaord
ati r128 video card (I'm using a monitor now since eventually this computer won't have any output device)
2 - HD3000's
1700+ AthlonXP
That's all that's really relevant.

Thanks in advance,

You might dig up the relevant messags out of dmesg and post them here. FWIW I have two HD-3000 and one HD-2000 in one combined FE/BE box and they're all working fine (as DVB cards). So we know it's possible...

From what I can dig out of the posts when you get message
Code:

This is what you do to fix it.

If you are talking about something else, I can't find it and would appreciate you pointing out WHAT AN IDIOT I AM. please

I have set the starting channel in Input Connections a bazillion different times to the same thing that works for the first tuner.

I think the error is for the ATI graphics card but I may be wrong.

Anyway those are the relevant sections I can find
after reading the dmesg dump I again see that the firmware was only uploaded once, doesn't it have to do it for both cards?

You may be on to something about the firmware upload. Here's mine (2-HD3000, 1-HD2000):

Code:
root@mythtv:~# dmesg | grep or51
or51132: Waiting for firmware upload(dvb-fe-or51132-vsb.fw)...
or51132: Version: 10001134-19430000 (113-4-194-3)
or51132: Firmware upload complete.
or51132: Waiting for firmware upload(dvb-fe-or51132-vsb.fw)...
or51132: Version: 10001134-19430000 (113-4-194-3)
or51132: Firmware upload complete.
or51211: Waiting for firmware upload (dvb-fe-or51211.fw)...
or51211:Got Hotplug firmware
or51211: Done.
or51211: Firmware upload complete.
or51211: ver TU250266 VSB mode 06 Status 62

I actually ran the command
Quote:
dmesg | grep or51

I found the firmware was loading to both cards. It's just that when you read the raw dmesg output the messages aren't on consecutive lines so it's pretty hard to follow without some sort of filter.

YEAH.... I did find what the real problem was though.... DUM DUM DUM..... my ATI R128 card. I removed it and put in a old sis 4mb pci card and lo and behold both tuners work perfectly.

I'm not sure if it is the fact that the card it an ATI chipset, or if it is because the card has a video capture input (composite). All I know is that I have had nothing but bad luck with ATI stuff and nothing but good luck with NVidia, if you don't count that they don't do 1080i properly yet. Unfortunately of the 5 other spare AGP cards I have, none of them will fit into the AGP slot in my motherboard because the connector gap is in the wrong place. I'm not sure if this a difference in AGP 1x vs 2x or 2x vs 4x or what. All I know is I need to find a new video card (the sis 4mb barely cuts it for enhanced text mode, let alone a gui.)
