First time I worked in a Linux enviroment but I heard that MythTV was excellent. I installed the new knoppmyth with an ATI HDTV wonder card. During configuartion I got a lock but no table when scaning HD channels. Now there is no signal detected when I select watch tv. any suggestions?

Stop the backend and start mythtv-setup. Press <ALT><2> then <ALT><S>.

2. (Capture card) is set to pcHDTV DTV capture card video device /dev/video
3. (video source) in the setup is set to "HDTV DTV" which calls up the lineup from Zap2it.
4. (input connections) is set to capture device HDTV: /dev/video input televison. When I scan for channels on this page I get a locks on the HDTV channels in the area with 99+% signal strength. When the channel is locked I get a "no tables" for the entry in the scan results.

Further information:
When I scan for channels using dtvscan /dev/video > channels I do not get a signal from any channel. However, I get signal with the input connection scan in the mythtv-setup.

Have you read any statement anywhere that the ATI HDTV card is supported by MythTv? I can't believe it would work when set up as a pcHDTV card. That's a totaly different beastie altogether.

Also, aren't all OTA digital cards under /dev/dvb? I know my Avermedia one is.

The ATI HDTV is reported to have support under Linux kernel 2.6.15 or greater and of course with Knoppmyth R5B7
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/ATI_HDTV_Wonder
halfmt: you need to set the following in mythtv-setup:
1. (capture card) set to Card type to DVB DTV capture card
2. (video source) setup with lineup from Zap2it (leave as how u already have it)
3. (input connections) it should see "[DVB:0](DVBInput)->(none)" then select the Zap2it video source which I believe you named it "HDTV DTV"
Exit mythtv-setup and startup mythbackend.
My setup works great when watching LiveTV but scheduled recordings seem to be flaky so I'm still figuring out why.

Thanks, I did a tail -f /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log to watch the log. Then I scheduled a recording to test and saw the following:

My question is why it's showing video codec as MPEG1VIDEO when I believe it should be MPEG2VIDEO ??
Also what are AFD and NVP keywords above?
Thanks!

Have you loaded the firmware for card?
I would suspect firmware is critical in order to get it to work ....

Thanks RacerX. Yes, firmware did get loaded (and so LiveTV works). Would it have something to do with Recording Profiles in mythfrontend? I checked and there are the Default, LiveTV, Low and High Quality profiles for the card but no other options such as bitrate and such inside each profile other than the profile name.

I think you have the kinda have the right idea, in my case with DVB HDTV card it records MPEG2 right out of the box straight away. However, since you are trying something new (and that is good!) with an ATI card but a bit more bleeding edge.
I looked at the docs of Myth and it says....
"For DVB and HDTV cards, no further configuration is required after setting up the card using the 'setup' program. For all other cards (ie your ATI), configuration is done through MythFrontend. Selecting 'Recording Profiles' from the 'TV Settings' screen will list the profiles currently available for the cards in your system. Depending on what types of cards you have installed you may see:
(Create new profile group)
Software Encoders
Hardware MPEG Encoders
Hardware MJPEG Encoders
Transcoders
The '(Create new profile group)' option will allow you to create custom profiles in case you have multiple backends. Note that custom profiles are per backend and card type. If you have 2 MPEG-2 encoders in a given backend system, creating a custom profile will affect both of them. This option should not be needed otherwise."
So what does your setup show under the "TV settings screen" option "Recoding Profiles"?
