Post subject: | Same problem - different question |
I posted an issue recently ( http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8250 ) regarding my system connected to a Panasonic 4:3 HDTV. Thanks to several suggestions (thanks ceenvee703 and Xsecrets) I was able to narrow my problem down to the way this HDTV renders certain modelines. Any 480P modeline defaults to a 4:3 aspect with an option to manually change the aspect to 16:9 (in the tv setup menu). Any 1080i (or 540P) defaults to a 16:9 with no option to change the aspect... So I have two questions... 1) Is there any way to have the system use a 480P modeline for SD source (pvr-x50's) and use a 1080i modeline for my HD3000 (maybe through multiple monitor sections within XF86Config-4)? 2) Although I know you can't really use multiple modelines and the ctrl/alt/++ method to switch them (virtual desktop issue), is there any way (short of editing XF86Config and rebooting) to change the modeline on the fly? |

1) yes 2) yes it's called xrandr support for it is built right into mythtv. you know the section where it lets you display the menu in a different resolution than videos, there's also a section where you can setup various resolutions to play different video resolutions. You just have to have all of the resolutions you are going to use available in your default color depth. |

I'm using the feature X described in R5A30.2 -- works well for me. My TV is a 50" samsung DLP. Connected via VGA it supports both 720p and 1080i. In 1080i mode the TV will deinterlace the video stream. So I use two resolutions: 1. 1080i for 1080i and standard-def recordings, which are also interlaced. 2. 720p for 720p recordings and for the GUI. Some of my settings you may find helpful: Key setup elements under “Utilities/Setup -> Setup->appearance” 1. Screen settings (2nd screen): Width=1232; height=704; x-offset=0; y-offset=8 2. Video mode settings (3rd screen): “Separate video modes for GUI and TV playback” is selected. The GUI display is configured as “GUI=1280x720; video output=1920x1080; rate=any; aspect=16x9”. I have filled in one row under “Overrides for specific video sizes”. The first row is “X=1280; Y=720; Output=1280x720; Rate=any; aspect=default”. Marc |
