The display on my plasma in 1080i has vertical duplication of images. You will see the start of an item adn then it you will see it again right below it. I am using a geforce 6200 and the 8178 drivers. 720p looks good. I tried the 6629 drivers but I was unable to install them. I developed the modelines from powerstrip and it looks great on windows with powerstrip.

First of all, are you sure your plasma set will even TAKE a 1080i signal? What interface are you using to deliver the video signal? My set (CRT projection) has component video inputs that will take a variety of signals, but I use its VGA input which will ONLY take 1080i -- nothing else.

Next question -- what is the native resolution of the plasma panel? If it has a native resolution of 1280x720 (or so) there is no reason to send it a 1080i signal. The extra pixels can't be used by the set anyway. Either the plasma set reduces the resolution or your Myth box does. May as well let the Myth box do it.

If your set DOES take 1080i, and if it HAS native 1080 resolution, then you need a different modeline for it. Start Googling for other people with the same plasma set and see what they're using.

My plasma will take 1080i . The Native resolution is 1366X786 or something similar. In my experience the 1080i looks a little better. I am using a dvi to hdmi Cable. I developed the modeline with powestirip and it looked fine. Why does the modeline not look the same in Knoppmyth and windows. Could the driver be the cause. Should I try 8174?

Well, it that is the max res, your plasma won't take 1080i as that is 1920x1080...

My television does take 1080i input. I used powerstrip through windows and it worked fine. The modeline was what powerstrip told me to use.

Ok, if you say so... I'll keep my thoughts to myself.

I send 720P(1280x720) to my plasma and it looks great...it is also closer to the native resolution of 1366x768 (768p)

(DVI->HDMI)

I think I got 1080i to work once but it didn't look as good so no need for that.

Stick with the 720P.

Please don't keep your thoughts to yourself. I would appreciate any suggestions or criticism that would maximize my picture. I will say that the 720p looks very good. I wanted to get 1080i because it looks better than 720p when I use the televisions tuner. I am not sure if I can tell a difference between 1080i straight from cable and 720p through my mythtv box.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think what people are trying to tell you is that, if 1080i doesn't work, and if 720p does work, and if the set's native resolution is 720p, and as such any 1080i source is ending up at 720p anyway, then you should just run the 720p modeline.

"Doc, it hurts when I do this."

"Well then, don't DO that!"

I forgot to mention that if your plasma will accept a modeline that is its native resolution such as 1366 x 768, then that should give you the best picture since there will be no scaling up or down.

My plasma (Hitachi) won't take a 1366x768 modeline so I use 720p, but on my projector I run a pixel-matched modeline (848x480) and it looks great.

Hope this helps.
