Post subject:  So close (2405FPW, 5200FX, HDTV)

I just upgraded my monitor to a Dell 2405FPW. I have it running at 1920x1200 and everything looks fine till I try to playback or watch live HD content. If the broadcast is SD on a digital channel it's fine. It appears to be a sync issue as I can see the image, but it appears as follows. Weak ascii art follows

Code:
rather than
----------
----------
----------
----------
----------

I get something like this
----------
 ----------
 ----------
----------
 it streaks.

I've googled, searched here, changed drivers, and tweaked everything I can think of, but can not get it right. If I lower the resolution, say 1280x1024 then things look fine, but at 19x12 they don't.

Any idea what I may be missing?

P4 2.6 768mb ram
PVR350
pcHD3000
Dell 2405FPW
some nvidia FX5200
current driver 7174, same issue with 6629

So am I missing something obvious or has no one else seen this?

From your description it sounds like marginal video timing. IF the streaks are random and all over the screen, that is. If the streaks are in a consistant and stable pattern down the screen I dunno what to say.

Your horsepower seems almost marginal for playing back 1080i content. The 7xxx drivers didn't work at all for me, but I was using the VGA output. DVI has been VERY problematic at 1080. If you're using DVI you may try the VGA connection.

Hmm, I wonder if it is just a horsepower issue. I didn't think so, but maybe? The content, appears to playback smoothly, other than the streaking. I am using VGA rather than DVI.

Here is what the streaks look like.
