What is the best DTV card to get for a fairly low end system (Pentium III 1.2Ghz, 512mb RAM)? I'd like to be able to watch and record at the same time - is this possible with this spec? |

easy done mate, most will do the job, just do a search and see what works with linux. I don't think there are many that won't work with the current release. |

Do you (or does anyone else) have one that you'd particularly recommend, based on: - out-of-the-box operation with mythtv - performance, having regard to this low end spec (ie on-board hardware decoder desirable?) - remote control working |

With a DVB card it simply captures the MPEG2 stream across the air waves thus no "decoding" as such is required, it is the playing that you have to worry about. I suspect that you should be fine with your hardware with a decent DVB card, just make sure you have a decent HDD as both recording and playing will be taxing on the HDD. |

Hi, Just give my 2c worth, I have had 2 x Avermedia 771 (no longer available) and have helped 3 people with installs using the same cards. They were a real pain when I first got them but work out of the box with Knoppmyth now. I have just got rid of one of the 771 cards and installed 2 x Twinhan mini terrestrial cards, they are nice and cheap, work out of the box. So current setup is 1 x Avermedia 771 and 2 x Twinhan Mini Ter Cards. Both cards work great and easy to install with current version. As most people have mentioned any card will do the trick if it's DVB so just as long as it's got suitable drivers for linux. Cheap prices on the Twinhan can be found at http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/sea ... er+twinhan Cheers, Beau |

Thanks for this great info. Beau, does the Twinhan remote work out of the box with 0.19? Or is additional config required? |

the twinhan usb ir remote works out of the box cos its a keyboard interface. Each key on the remote is a keyboard command. I have two of them and have no problems at all. Here is the keyboard map for your information http://www.dreamtime.org/wiki/TwinHan-VisionPlus |

G'day, I have had the twinhan working well in the past, and it seems to be the cheapest, have a look at http://umart.net/au/advanced_search_res ... 0305af2e09 I have been playing with the dvico fusion plus and it seems to work so far, but not out of the box. The one I have is a rev 1.1 which isn't supported by the the current version of knoppmyth. The process to make it work is fairly trivial. Then there is a bit of jiggery pokery to get the remote to work. I also bought mine from umart. They are a great online store, I don't have any affiliation with them, but they have an excellent service and good prices. Matt |
