My mythbox is locked up at the starting splash screeen where the progress meter goes along the bottom of the screen during start up. I can't access the box through putty. I have reset the computer and it keeps stopping on this screen. The computer turned itself off last night after it finished its work. I have had some fschk errors lately on start up, but I those had been resolved.

The only time I've ever had that problem was when it couldn't get an internet connection...but eventually it would start up...without the network. That or it's doing drive scans because of crash?

Hit ALT-F2 when it changes to the splash screen. This will let you see the boot messages and you might be able to figure out why it's hanging.

Hi,

I think if you hit esc it gives a window on the internal workings also. Most likely it is going through a disk check and if is a large drive could take several minutes. Give it a while ~10 - 15 minutes and see what occurs.

You may have to boot from the installer disc and go to a prompt to repair your system. It's possibly a hardware failure or some such, but if you mount the root partition you'll be able to access the log files. I'd start at the last dozen or so lines of /var/log/messages

Good luck

Mike

Rkshack, is this with R5F27?

It *could* be the same issue as: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... highlight=

With the bootslash screen enabled, if it is dying at this point, it would look like what you have described. Mine has been working fine since adding the init script I posted. Might be worth trying...

When I went back later it was working. I went out of town and have not seen if it is going to be a continued problem. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I will post what I find if it happens again.
