Well I have been reading everything I can find to try and get Mythweather working. I'm a real Linux n00b, but I have managed to get Mythtv working, also learned a lot by screwing around, breaking it, fixing it, re-installing, etc. The thing is, everytime I have had to do a re-install, mythweather has ALWAYS worked. Now, it doesn't. Anyone have any ideas why? It's not all that important, but it is a nifty feature. I keep reading that Mythweather is broken, yet...it worked.......

Are you using KnoppMyth? MythWeather works fine in R5F27. If you aren't using KnoppMyth, search the forum or MythTV archives.

Thanks for the reply, Cecil.
Yes, using Knoppmyth R5F27. Tried to reinstall the plugin, tried the mythweather revamp, no joy. Just wondering I guess if there is something really simple or obvious that I am missing like" jeez, dummy, you have to do THIS >>???<<" otherwise, I guess I can try again, probably fat-fingered it somehow hehe

I'm having the same/similar issue. I've been doing a number of re-installs over the past week while trying to get my ATI mach64 drivers to work (did it by the way! Likely a positive merge in the xorg 7.1.1 stream).
I had the Weather working last weekend with R5F27 but about mid week it stopped working. It complains that it timed out trying to retreive the weather info. Even if it has only tried for 3 seconds it complains it couldn't retrive within 20s.
Perhaps the issue is still upstream. Does Knoppmyth download the latest versions/patches during install? I haven't quite figured out its updating mechanisms yet though I see it doing some downloading in the install process.

Well, here's what I did with the MythWeather revamp--I guess my question is, being a linux uber-noob, am I in the right directories when I am doing this stuff?
cd /root
svn co http://svn.mythtv.org/svn/trunk/mythplugins/mythweather
cd /usr/src/mythplugins
./configure --disable-all --enable-mythweather --prefix=/usr
make
make install
ls -l /usr/lib/mythtv/plugins/
Is this the correct way to do this?

Hi,
Sounds more suspicous that a change was made to a firewall... maybe added one or something? Network still connected? Usually, it is wise to check external stuff first ( unless you were doing something when it broke )
Weather has and continues to work fine for me in R5F27. KnoppMyth is very stable and things don't usually "just stop" without a cause.

Well having a look at my directories, I tried re-installing the plugin again using the code I had posted above. Apparently, In my /usr/src/mythplugins folder, Mythweather folder does not get updated, the 'Last Modified" date is the same as all the other plugins, when I did my last installation. How do I get the plugin to be installed to the right folder?
Note: I actually didn't 'break' Mythweather, (I think) just that in my latest re-install, it isn't working, where in previous re-installs, it always has.

Hi,
Just what does it (weather) do / not do ? About the only setting required is a location which you would normally do in setup. Is this the mythweb weather or the main weather. It is awfully hard to break something that normally just works.
I do know a firewall can keep it from working, went through that with a friend a while back Worked fine at my house but no weather at his

In my case when you go to either the set up page for weather or into weather itself, you never get to choose the location. It automatically timesout and gives you the option to extend the timer or cancel. If you press OK to extend the timer, it returns immediately without waiting for the timer and offers to extend the timer again. If you choose cancel then it exits altogether.
It is odd because I have been doing nothing but fresh installs and a week ago it worked every time but as of about mid last week it fails every time. However news headlines and other functions seem fine.
I'm currently trying to adjust parameters for my mach64 ATI driver for TVOut. Once i have finished tuning that I will look more into what is going on with weather. But if you have any throughts on the weather issue, they would be most welcome.
Christ.

Hi,
Try a different zip code as the site you seek may be off line. If something was running fine and then suddenly stops, check all the external points first. If you have a flat tire there is no need to rebuild the engine.
Any changes to the firewall rule set? That will kill it real quick.

If you have a flat tire there is no need to rebuild the engine. I was thinking the same thing. The thing I have in common with wardog is we would both have Canadian postal codes instead of US Zip codes. As for the engine, already up to my elbows in the old ATI drivers. It is mostly working but just need to figure out how to resize the TV image. I think it is picking up the dimensions from the laptop's Flat-panel thus ignoring Modeline in xorg.conf. Not done by me. I've also been traveling with the setup so have tried it from different parts of the Country and thus am using different firewalls and Internet access.

Not sure why it failed but I went in and manually changed the sql database and now it works. Perhaps it needs to be left blank during the install? But then I assume the channel line up won't work right. Not sure if I did something different when it did work. Perhaps I skipped the postal code.
The following link gives a how-to:
http://www.zen.org/?p=39
But to summarize:
As root in the shell type (This take you to the mysql monitor where you can access the DB):
Code: mysql Connect to the Myth Database: Code: use mythconverg If you want to see the current setting: Code: select * from settings where value = 'locale'; {NOTE: you must have the semi-colon to termiante the statement} If you want to change it: Code: update settings set data = 'mycode' where value = 'locale'; For mycode enter your local area code, if you are unsure what your code is there is a list in the file accid.dat (in /usr/share/mythtv/mythweather as of R5F27) type Code: exit to leave the mysql monitor.
