I find it very convenient that for sitcoms and regular 1-hour shows, I can file the different episodes under the name of the show. So for example I can look at "Everybody loves Raymond" and find all episodes listed there.
I can also record all instances of a particular show.

Suggested feature: I would like the same convenience for the recording and filing of MOVIES. So I would like to have categories for movies and have the movies filed under the correct category. It is now possible to search for movies by category. I wish I could also *record* and *file* them by category. So to find a movie, I would look under the left menu (with the show names), and scroll down until I find, for example "Action Movies", then select that and find all "Action movies" listed in the right pane. Basically I want myth to pretend that all "Action Movies" are just different episodes of the same show. This would be good because it prevents the
left-menu from getting cluttered up when you have too many movies recorded. Secondly, it would also be nice if I could program the recording of movies on the basis of categories. Like just as I can say (record every episode of "Seinfeld"), and have options on which channels to record from and how often, it would be nice if I could *also* say (record every Action movie, whether I select it individually or not), and keep a queue of 5 (or 10, or 2) of them waiting at any time.

It would be fine if I can only have a few categories like that, eg "Movies", or more accurate divisions like "Movies-Comedies", "Movies-Romantic", "Movies-Action", etc. Maybe selecting on the basis of number of stars would be nice too. Maybe the most general technique would be to have a search query and be able to name the search query, and then both file
and record under the query name. eg. I query for all 5 star action movies, and call the query "ActionFiesta", and then I can record all "ActionFiesta" shows from whatever channel, keep the most recent (number of choice), and file them under the class "ActionFiesta", just
as if "ActionFiesta" were
a regularly scheduled program. In some sense it should be a long-lived
query, because the box will remember your query and keep applying your query to new listings that arrive, and treating all the shows that meet your query as if they are episodes of the same show.

Overall the best arrangement would be to have this as an extra option, without replacing the ability to pinpoint and select a specific movie.

One way to implement this would be to hack mythtv and/or knoppmyth, but I think another way would be to pass all the TV listings through a certain filter that will relabel the shows, and convert all different movies into "episodes" of the same "show". Any ideas on a very easy way to do this? I think that hacking the data downloads from the TV listings companies (eg Zap2it) would give us a fixed number of categories. But the best way would be to make the modification on the myth side, and be able to configure the categories exactly the way you want. Using the query interface, but just adding the ability to save the queries and apply them on a continuous basis.

Also, please let me know if it is already possible to do this!!!

Thanks!!

You're talking to the wrong people. These are the KnoppMyth Forums, KnoppMyth is a distro built to make it easy to setup a MythTV box, but it's only a consumer of the software from the MythTV project just like you. None of the KM developers that I'm aware of are MythTV developers.

You need to take your ideas over to the MythTV mailing lists and/or wiki: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
In particular try here: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Feature_Wishlist

BTW - I think you can already do some of this using the recording groups...
