I am wondering if the mythTV internal player choose the output resolution according to the content it play. I thought it should just use the resolution that the X window is using, namely, the one in xorg.conf. However, I run into problem that the MythTV menus displays correctly, but when I watch TV or watch recordings in my hard disk, for the SD contents, the top half of my video is displayed full screen. For the HD contents, the screen will just flash and go blank, and X restarts after a few seconds. BTW, when I watch recordings, the preview window can play the video correctly.

I setup my knoppMyth using a computer monitor, and everything is fine. But when I try to connect my CRT HDTV via DVI-HDMI, I run into this problem. My HDTV can not accept 1080p, but it can accept 1080i, 720p. I am wondering if there is seperate setting for the internal player? Maybe it still think my monitor can do the same thing my computer monitor can.

Below is my original post at the General board. Not sure if it is the right place.

MythTV can change the resolution. Have a look at the TV Playback settings that mention Xrandr. By default, the resolution doesn't change.

Running mythfrontend -v playback should tell us if it is changing resolution.

Depending on your output card, the problem might just be overscan settings?
