I've just installed MythTV - Knoppmyth ver 0.20. It's all gone pretty good and I'm very impressed. For some reason some of the stations are not coming in. The cable package I have is basic cable (channels 2-73) and digital basic cable (channels 200-950). All the basic cable channels come in just fine but when I try to switch to any of the 200-950 channels, nothing happens, MythTV seems to not be able to pick the channel up, it won't even switch to it. I have the coax cable connected straight to the PVR-500. I tried first connecting the coax to the digital box from my provider, then to the computer but then nothing would come in on any channel. I have no idea where to even start looking.
Thanks in advance to anyone for any help.

The PVR500 is an analogue card, so will only be able to pick up analogue signals. If the PVR500 has a Composite or S-Video In, you should be able to connect that to your STBs Composite or S-Video out. If you are able to to obtain an IR Blaster, you can use that to control the channel to which your cable STB is tuned to.
If you need to pick up the Digital channels directly, you will need an ATSC card. There are posts on this site describing how to set this up.

Is this a joke? You can't get a digital signal with an analogue tuner. Even if you buy a digital tuner there is a 99.99% chance that your cable company encrypts all digital channels besides brodcast networks which they are required by law to not encrypt.

I'm really new at digital video and cable tv. I have been using Linux for a few years so I'm comfortable with that. All that I want to do is to be able to record cable so my girlfriend can see that opensource is worth the time and effort. I spent a few weeks googling and researching MythTV so that I would know what hardware I would need to purchase. Everywhere I looked people were using Hauppauge cards so I bought myself a PVR-500 because of the two onboard tuners. Basic cable is coming in fine but the digital cable channels are not coming in.
Am I really going to have to buy another capture card in order to watch the digital channels? I still have the digital cable box from my cable provider and I can still hook it up to the TV and get those channels. I thought that I could hook the incoming coax to the digital box, then the output from the digital box would be hooked into the PVR-500. Is it not true that the signal coming from the digital box was already unencrypted? Again, I'm new to the DVR thing so I may very well be completely off base in my understanding of how this stuff works.
Thanks for the help,
Tim

As I said, you should be able to hook up one of the Composite/S-Video ports of the PVR500 to the Composite/S-Video outputs of your STB. The STB may output an RF signal (one that can be tuned to by an analogue TV) on a specific channel, but this will be whatever you set the STB to.
Using the RF signals from your STB to capture from is not recommended, as they are lower quality as they have to go though a modulation/demodulation step.
