I'm setting up a new htpc with the following:

775 Single core Intel 64 processor
Intel BLKD975XBX2KR LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
1G RAM
2 TB SATA 3.1 disk

I'm looking to record and play only SD television. I don't have enough funds to do HDTV yet.

I have a couple of questions.

1) I want to control two Directv receivers (not purchased yet) directly via USB ports. Can anyone having serial running with their units adivse me on which hardware they are using?

2) Where does the channel listing for MythTV come from? I'd hate to see this resource disappear sometime down the road.

3) I've ordered a Haupage 1042 PCE MCE capture card and if it works, I'll order another. But before I even open this, am I getting the right card? Is there anything that works better?
