Just in the midst of installing MythTV on my new machine and realised i never consdiered compatability options regarding my iPod. Will MythTV recognise this device and will i be able to play my tunes on it via the MythTV music player? What about syncing my libraries? If not can anyone recommend a piece of software that might do the job nicely.

Many thanks

Rob

MythTV will happily play .mp3 files but it will NOT play .aac files purchased from iTunes due to the "Fairplay" DRM. There are some methods to remove the DRM but they are illegal in many countries and can not be discussed here.

A quick Google search turned up this link: http://www.myth2ipod.com/ which is probably worth checking out.

Good luck,

Martian

or you can use an external player instead of mythmusic. supposedly the next version (0.2.5, just out as a nightly) of Songbird will play apple fairplay and windows DRM files (both legally from what i understand - however, not sure on the support for linux). it's cool player that has a built-in browser. kinda like a winamp and firefox mashup. i've been using the last version and love it, however, it doesn't have the features for me to add it to myth yet. i might consider this next version though, especially if it can handle fairplay on linux.

Banshee might be an option, too, however i'm not sure how it handles DRM.

let us know if you use either option and how it works for you.
