I was hoping people here would be able to save me countless hours of my life trying to find the best transcoder settings. I am mainly looking for a setting that will give me a full hour of recording to be around 700 meg. I guess along the route of SVCD quality. I am just getting tired of these 2.1 gig size files for 1 hr of recording. If you could post the settings that give great quality but yet still keep the size down that would save me a lot of time. Thanks in advance.

To get those kind of compression levels with anything resembling acceptable quality you're going to need to transcode after the fact. Since you didn't tell us what your native resolutions are, or what kind of capture card you're using, or anything else about the system that's about the most detailed response we're going to be able to give you.

Sorry for not including all the information. I have a PVR-350 that I am using to capture the video. As for output I have a Widescreen tv at 720x480. Right now I am capturing at the default settings.

I have a PVR-150 that records at the default settings, and it gets about 2.2GB an hour. My machine then transcodes to MP4 which reduces the size to about 750MB an hour with no obvious quality loss. The only changes I made other than that were to increase the capture and transcode volumes to 100%. Otherwise things were too quiet.

Whatever the defaults were. I didn't change anything except the volume.
