Thanks to everyone...and I mean everyone for assisting me in getting this topic to the right post. (tic & bigbro) and there are others :)

so here goes...hopefully...

Hello,

I am having a hard time with my Knoppmyth box recording scheduled recordings. I currently have a PVR150 (non-MCE), satellite connected to the S-Video port and audio coming into the "audio in" port. I have been able to get everything else working except the following:

recording of television shows
ir transmitter working (although the remote does work in myth frontend)

I have been racking my brains. I am not sure what log files to grab or where to get them in order to find out why this is not working. I currently have myth on /dev/sda4 and it is a sata drive. The dvd recording works and saves it to the appropriate place on sda4. I only have a few hunches, but so far no luck.

Oh and I don't have a mythbackend.log file. I just read some postings and changed my recordings to use high quality profile to give me the 720 x 480 size, and the initial recording fails....once I reactivate it, i get a message that it is recording, but I don't see any files building in the /myth/tv/ dir ???

Any direction would be great.
Thanks

I am having the same problem too. I hit record and mythtv says it's recording. When I stop the recording and go to watch the recording, myth is saying I don't have any recordings. It's odd because when I check the /myth/tv directory, the files are there. I have no clue what's happening so any help would definitely be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Ah. This sounds like somehow you've set a "group filter" that prevents you from seeing the recordings. From the main menu go to media library -> watch recordings page and hit "m" to bring up the menu.

tjc,

I would agree that would work if recordings actually didn't fail. I am still not sure why the recordings themselves are failing. Would it have something to do with LIRC not changing the channels?

Thanks

Marshallaw - I think your problem probably has more to do with controlling the satellite box. Watching "Live TV" is a good test of this. If that doesn't work, chances are about 99% that recordings won't either. I just pointed someone else to the IRBlaster and Serial control pages on the wiki. See this thread for that: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14545

The following page covers the basic setup, but since there are so many possibilities where external cable/satellite boxes are concerned it can only provide limited guidance on the specifics: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV

Thank tjc, I can actually watch live tv, but I can't change the channel. I just fisex the lircd.conf to only show the options for my remote, and now I will be adding the "change_channel" script from the wiki. Once I have the livetv changing channels correctly, I will test the recordings. If that fails, I will post my results. Thanks again for the direction :)

Ok so here's where i sit. I have done the following:

Changed the lirc.d file to only represent the settopbox that I have using codes 0_28_etc. Once this was complete, I then created a file (as per Marks wiki page) "change_channel", reconfigured mythtv backed to reflect the external command (/usr/local/bin/change_channel). Also did chmod +x for that file. Restarted backend.

Edited /etc/lirc/hardware/conf as per Merlinx post (added LIRCD_ARGS="-d /dev/lirc0)

So far, I am still unable to change channels in livetv.

A few questions, will this inability to change channels cause my recordings to fail (if not, then I am on the wrong path, and I would like to get this fixed first).

2. If this will cause me problems in recording, is there another place that I can look to get this running?

Thanks again for all the suggestions!!!

Yes. They use the exact same mechanisms. If you can't change channels in liveTV you can't make recordings either. Watching "Live TV" is siimply making a recording and watching it at more or less the same time. More to the point, when you go to make a recording if it can't tune the channel (as indicated in this case by the external tuner script returning a non-zero exit status) then the recording will abort.

Ok, so then my problem is the fact that I can't change channels...well I am further ahead than b4..tnx tjc....I changed my external command to use the change-channel-lirc.sh script, but I don't see the light on the PVR150 transmitter blink...when i setup IRBlaster, do I need to chose com1 or com2 and will this make a difference? As well, maybe I should just undo everything that I have so far, reload the original lircd.conf file, and try it again?

Any suggestions?

Well I was able to get R5E50 working with my PVR150 and now am happily recording shows. I used Mark's tut (http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... sc&start=0)
to get myself through the installation. There were many items that I did not have to do from that tutorial, but none-the-less I have gotten it working.

So thanks to everyone for helping me understand what my problem as and then directing me to the appropriate places.
