R5D1 -> R5E50 Upgrade: Mythmusic m4a Files Don't Play

Like the subject says - I've upgraded from R5D1 to R5E50. The upgrade worked nearly perfectly; two (tiny) issues one posted here and the other, in another thread.

mythmusic plays mp3 files just fine but won't play m4a (mpeg4 audio) files.

I can use mplayer to play both mp3 and m4a files just fine.

I've noticed this ERROR that mythfrontend spits out when I try to play an m4a file:
Code:
2006-12-28 02:05:44.524 XMLParse::LoadTheme using /usr/share/mythtv/themes/default-wide/music-ui.xml
2006-12-28 02:05:54.037 Opening ALSA audio device 'default'.
mythmusic: unsupported fileformat

But the mythfrontend log reports that aac is supported when it launches:
Code:
2006-12-28 02:05:10.184 Registering MythMusic Media Handler 1/2 as a media handler ext()
2006-12-28 02:05:10.184 Registering MythMusic Media Handler 2/2 as a media handler ext(ogg,mp3,aac,flac)
2006-12-28 02:05:10.184 MonitorRegisterExtensions(0x40, ogg,mp3,aac,flac)
2006-12-28 02:05:10.635 Starting media monitor.

The extension of the file I'm trying to play is m4a.

I'm playing audio via spdif / alsa.

Thanks!

Sean

Doing a little googling it appears that the message:
Code:
mythmusic: unsupported fileformat

is a message from the mythmusic application.

It looks like it was built without support for those codecs. I think there was something in the r5e50 hints about that.

It would be strange if that were the case. The default mplayer install that KM has already includes the AAC (FAAD) codec. Wouldn't it be strange to intentionally offer AAC decoding for mythstream (and other apps built on top of mplayer) but not mythmusic?

And - the MonitorRegisterExtensions call includes aac - so it seems like it was built in.

Is anyone able to play AAC / M4A files with mythmusic in R5E50?

Either way - even if it was excluded intentionally I'd like to learn how to add it / build it back in. There are plenty of examples of the community generating instructions like this (see CSS).

And if it's really difficult to get AAC support back then I'll just transcode the few m4a files that I have...

But at this point - I'm betting that I just have some bad configuration something somewhere...

Sorry for the wet behind the ears question but.... Were do we go from here??? I am assuming that we need to patch from the svn but I have no experience in doing this? I have looked for other directions but I am getting very confused.

Thanks for the help
Cheers

It appears from this that the FAAD package is the reason that aac/m4a files don't work in MythMusic. From the FAAD changelog it appears that version 2.5-4 will fix the problem. The version of FAAD in R5F1 is 2.5-2. So to this Linux newb it would seem that FAAD needs to be upgraded to get aac/m4a files to work in MythMusic again. So is is safe to upgrade FAAD and if so how does one do it?

Thanks,
Britney
