The first time I access mythtv via VNC it seems to work find. But often I can't get in after awhile, and I have to either press a button on the remote or the keyboard attached to the system to get it to work again. If I'm in the other room this is an annoyance, but its a real problem when I'm at another location. What could be causing this? It was suggested to me by a friend that I set BlankTime to 0, but that didn't change anything.

I don't have a solution, but I do have the same problem and a work around. My work around has been to remote login to my myth box with putty and restart the front end (/etc/init.d/gdm restart on R5D1). Remote VNC connects than start to work again.

This is a bit of a sledge-hammer approach -- I'm sure there are better solutions.

no gdm on the latest version, but

killall mythfrontend; mythfrontend

seems to work. I can't find where mythfronend is started. What is the proper way to restart the front end from a command line?

From TJC's upgrade notes:
Quote:
2.2) GDM is gone and won't be coming back. Rather than using "/etc/init.d/gdm restart" to restart the frontend from the command line you can now use "pkill xinit". To stop X entirely you can drop to single user mode using "telinit 1" at the console and then kill xinit using the command described above.
