I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with Mythtv recording shows it wasn't asked to. Every 3 or 4 days I have to go in and delete little clips of shows I have watched over the last few days. I never asked mythtv to record these. It seems to have a mind of its own just recording a few minutes of random shows I watch. It doesn't record every show, or the whole show. Just random little snippits. Does anyone know why Mythtv might do this? I am running R5F1.

Do you have it set to show live recordings in the playback screen? I can't remember where, but there's a setting to hide those.

It records anything you watch via Watch TV - that's how it is able to pause, rewind, etc. As Gibble mentioned there is an option to "Show LiveTV rercordings..." in Setup/Utilities -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Playback

This is actually a huge improvement over previous behavior where you could be watching a movie "live" but behind real time, have a scheduled recording steal the tuner, and miss the last 20 minutes of the show. It also provides the ability to decide sometime after you start watching something that you want to keep it as a recording. Not to mention that it made a whole category of FAQs and common problems associated with the old ring buffers just go away. The auto expiration rules for live recordings are generally quite well tuned and clean things up pretty quickly. If seeing them in the recording list in the meantime annoys you, use the setting mentioned above to hide them.
