I'm having a problem with R5d1. I can't get my tuner to work. I have a PVR-150 connected to a Starchoice receive and I can only get video using Composite, no audio comes through. I originally wanted to use RF but I can't get that to work at all doesn't matter what channel I preset Myth to (3 or 4) or us-cable or the other us cable options. Iall I get is snow!

I've done a dmesg. does it matter if the INIT IVTV sections ends with

tuner 1-0061: tuner type not set
tuner 1-0061: tuner type not set

Is this a normal? response?

My PVR-150 has audio inputs as well as video (PVR-150 MCE version)

Not good :(
Check the wiki, I think there is information for your situation. It is in the forum also but the wiki would be best place to start.

OK, I'm making some progress, I'm no longer getting the tuner not set message, but I'm still getting my tuner type set to 4

see below

I've edited both files listed in the Wiki, but the driver still seems to be setting the type to 4.

Still getting "snow" when I watch tv. It's really not supposed to be this hard to setup is it?? I don't have any oddball hardware.

MSI Geforce 440 video
AMD Athlon XP 2600
Seagate 60Gb HDD
Nforce based Mobo

Hi,

Looks like it is 50 to me...

Check for posts by tjc as he has some very good stuff. For some reason the mfgr seems to keep messing with the tuner on the 150 so things are a little in flux. You may have to drop the tuner card in setup and rebuild it now that you have the type set.

Ok, I've read the Wiki over and over and Now I have the tuner type set to 50. Great! Not so much. Still snow and now Composite video in doesn't work!! and I still get the tunertype set to 4 when IVTV initiallizes! I just don't know where to look anymore. why would Composite in stop wroking with the tuner type set to 50?

Also I keep reading about IVTV logs. I have yet to find any? Where are they supposed to be? they are certainly not stored in /var/log

It's being _identified_ as type 4, but your overide setting appears to be working as Mike (mjl) notes. You may get some relief by upgrading to the ivitv 0.7.1 drivers (which contain fixes for that tuner chip) following the directions on the wiki. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv They're _very_ detailed but don't let that scare you off. They're as close to bombproof as I could make them, and for the R5D1 case they should take all of about 5 minutes.

OBTW - Did you verify that you're using the right frequency set for your cable provider?

I'm on Starchoice. I've tried Us-bcast, US-Cable,US-cable hrc, and the other option, none worked. I'll try the 0.7.1 drivers. but I have to admit, Linux is making me feel very humbled!! I've got 15 years of Windows environments under my belt , including 8 acting as Network admin and Linux just has me beat!!

Hi,

Don't be afraid of linux as once you get a little more comfortable navigating around you will become a low level tech like me :) I can actually edit using vi! Please notice I did not say programmer... I would suggest since you are gui kind of guy, that you obtain Ubuntu Drapper (live & installable) so you can play a little. Lots of reading, helps. The more you learn, I think the more you will like.

Ok, back to original problem. video but no audio using composite in... You did connect audio to the mini jack on the card, right?

tjc's guidence and suggestions should get you up with the tuner and of course, there is nothing to stop you from dropping back and trying R5C7. Copy the hostname to a safe place, ($ cp /etc/hostname /home/mythtv/ ) then do a backup. At that point you could safely do an auto upgrade (going either way is considered an upgrade) Hostname must be the same for all upgrades or the database is unhappy so that is why we saved a copy, just in case there is a senior moment. (# cp /home/mythtv/hostname /etc/ ) Reboot.

Mike

I've installed the 0.7.1 drivers that TJC suggested, went withuot a hitch, Rebooted and Dmesg shows that I am using the 0.7.1 drivers. Still no TV through the tuner, but composite video in works again. so I give up on the tuner option. I have video that's good enough, now all I need is audio. The problem is at this point I don't know if the audio problem is inbound or outbound. Are there any test patterns that can be run??

Most likely inbound. As Mike already pointed out, if you're using the composite or svideo input you need to pair it with an audio cable from your external box to the silver 1/8" stereo mini-jack on the PVR card because those feed types don't include an embedded audio signal.

To test audio output play a music CD.

Well I definitely have an outbound audio problem now. I tried streaming the BBC and nothing, not sound at all. I'm going to look at the audio setup and see if I can get Myth to use the ALSA analogue driver

command doesn't work. "alt x $ alsamixer m = mute toggle" results in the following error

-bash alt: command not found

what is this supposed to do anyway?

Don't mean to jump in but I have been watching this as I am trying to add a second tuner.

alt x $ alsamixer m = mute toggle
Should be:
Code:
alt x
$ alsamixer m

m = mute toggle

You are opening a Shell with Alt-x
Then you are toggling the alsamixer setting to mute or unmute, in this case you are testing to unmute the mixer.
