Our MythBox at home is very frequently used by all members of the family (me, wife and both kids, 7 and 9). This means that there are a lot of different recordings and I find that it is getting harder to keep track of which shows have been seen or not. Especially if we record something that both wife and I want to see and then one of us watch it alone.

There are also shows where we have several episodes recorded and I have seen more of them than my wife. And we have recorded shows that we have seen but want to keep.

I have been thinking of using different recording groups to handle this, but it feels like a tweak... I mean, I want to have the groups so separate between Movies, Series, Kids show etc. The it will become very ugly if I also need Movies-seen, Series-seen_by_me, Series-seen_by_wife...

I guess I should post a wish for some kind of "personal status" for MythTV... Like so you could add "users" and each user can "tag" shows for status (seen/unseed etc).

Am I the only one having this problem? How are others handling things like this?

sounds like a feature request for mythtv.

It could see how it might work --

mythfrontend falls out to login screen when not in use.

a 4 digit pin input with the remote will log a user in so that mythtv could keep
track of who watched what and when..

Then anyone could go into a history for a show to see who watched, when and if
they finished watching it or not.

Bookmarks could be kept seperate so each person could watch from where they left off.
It could pop up a warning when someone tries to delete a show with message like
"Joe has a saved bookmark, still delete?"

Might not need to fall out to a login screen, could just be that there is a user/profile name shown in the View recordings-list and you just move up to the field and select another user.

There is already an effort to add this feature to a future version of MythTV. Either sit back and wait or go and offer your help in adding it.
