Hello,

I'm trying to install MythTV on SUSE 10.1 and mysql seams to be the problem.

I did this:

# su
# /etc/init/mysql start
# mysqladmin -u root password xxxx
# cd /usr/share/doc/packages/mythtv/database
# mysql -u root -p < mc.sql
# mythtv-setup

and I get this errors:

Uhhh not to split hairs but this is the KnoppMyth forum. Now I am sure people here would be more than willing to help you, but as most of us have the bulk of our experience installing KnoppMyth you may have better luck @ http://www.mythtvtalk.com/. The site appears to be down right now but try checking it again. Orrrrr maybe try KnoppMyth.

Any one using any distro can post in the General Linux area. Of course it doesn't mean you get an answer. And really why bother using anything other than KnoppMyth to get Myth going?! ;)

Valent -- seriously, try KnoppMyth. It frees you from the $*%&% of getting all the dependencies ironed out and has a configuration that works out of the box for most cases. You'll still get up close and personal with Linux in the fine-tuning stage, but there's less and less of that with each release.

Hi Valent,

Curious, what does Suse + Myth offer above what Debian + KM offer?

It is sad but cesman and his team have just about put getting under the hood to tinker a thing of the past. However, there are still oppertunities to tinker if you have the tools and want to get the hands dirty. Special tweaks for the latest and greatest video cards, fine tune the HD stuff, create new features, make the fm radio work or like many folks, just lean back and enjoy the fruits. :)

Have you tried new Suse 10.1? It has loads of engineering built into it's tools (yast and sax) so setting up twinview or anything else is really simple.
And on that machine I also would like to setup few virtual machines with XEN. I know my Suse :) and setting up MythTV in no big deal when somebody explains how to setup MySQL database. And I got really good and simple instructions form suse forums.

Hi Valent,

I only tried Suse a few years past and not the latest. I was just curious and just seemed to make sense to do a KnoppMyth build to see how it all works, maybe be able to use some of the stucture in other ways. Anyway, sounds like a plan in motion.

Wish you well and if you do someday try KnoppMyth, then welcome aboard:)

Have a great day!
Mike
