I have a mostly vanilla install of KnoppMyth R5C7 using my PVR-350's TV out. Playing back my recordings works great, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get MythTV to recognize and play the DivX AVI's that I put in /myth/video. The video manager sees them and says "content length: 0". MythVideo says "no files found". I tried associating MythVideo's avi file type with the "Internal" player, but didn't see any difference in behavior.

I've found a bunch of posts on this subject, but I can't tell whether this is supposed to work out of the box. Ultimately I'd like to be able to watch my videos using the same UI as when I'm watching recordings. Is there a primer somewhere for setting this up?

Thanks in advance,

Boris

Minor update... I no longer get "no files found". Must have been some sort of caching weirdness. But I still can't play the videos and the UI tells me that they're 0-length even though the file plays fine on my Windows box. So it sounds like I'm missing a codec?

No, KnoppMyth doesn't support divx out of the box. Yes, you're missing a codec. KnoppMyth generally doesn't include anything that would open the door to legal problems. Proprietary codecs are high on that list.

Anything it includes which isn't open source, like the Nvidia drivers or Hauppauge firmware, is done with permission.

To get a wider array of format's played upgrade MPlayer. DivX I'm not sure 100% sure. But I think so... Can't remember. Certainly plays RealMedia files now. Look at the web pages for Mplayer and Xvid. Graysky's instructions and links for it all are here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4706&highlight=mplayer
The instructions are very easy to follow. Good luck, not that you'll need it.
Regards
Chris

I must admit, I have no problem playing DivX, and I didn't have to do anything. I'm on R5A30.2. I use my Knoppmyth install exclusively as a frontend for video files, no TV capture, and I don't think it's failed to play anything I've fired at it. And you know all about the different fromats you get from p2p. Anyway, are you sure that the files copied correctly, or that mplayer can even read them? I'd suggest opening an xterm with Alt-X then typing mplayer /path/to/file to see if they work at all.
