I have a very slow KnoppMyth box. It's a Pentium 450 with NO DVD or CD drive in it (it's too slow to use them) and a PVR-350 TV card. I'd like to take a DVD I made from homemade video and put it on the KnoppMyth drive and be able to select/play it from the Myth menu. So, I guess....what exactly do I copy over from the DVD to the Myth drive, where do I put it on the Myth drive and how can I add it to the database (or whatever) to get it to show up in the menu and then have it play? I probably need to keep it in MPEG-2 format due to the fact that my PVR-350 can do the decoding because my PC is too slow to convert it from another format. Is this even possible? I'm running R5A22, if that matters. |

Second, you will probably need to rip your dvd home movies to at least an iso file. There's software to do that. Check on www.videohelp.com. It doesn't change the format, but basically makes an image of the dvd (an iso file). It's gonna be big though, around 4-5 gig. You can rip it to xvid instead, and it would probably shrink it to half the size. You'd need to install an xvid codec then to view it though. Once you've gotten the iso file, go download an ssh ftp client such as psftp offered by the people who make putty (an ssh telnet client). Search on google for putty.exe. You'll have to ftp the iso file to the mythbox video directory. Once it's completed, go into tools/setup and find video manager. Running that option will add the found iso file to the list, and you'll see it when you go to view videos. You may need to edit your settings a bit to get mplayer to play iso files. I found I wasn't able to play them until I told myth to use mplayer specifically. |
