I'm trying to solve a hard crash problem. Some have suggested turning off APIC and ACPI in the BIOS. The APIC disable works fine, but turning off ACPI causes the following error on startup:

unknown interrupt or fault at EIP 00010012 0000060 c06c800d

The error appears over and over and Linux never boots. If I go back to the BIOS and turn ACPI back on Linux boots. Any ideas?

You might try editiing /etc/lilo.conf and adding acpi=no to the append line to disable acpi in the kernal so it matches what is set in BIOS. Don't forget the lilo -r afterwords.

I didn't try that in the lilo.conf file yet, but I did try it by holding down the left CTRL key and entering the line by hand before linux boots. I tryied acpi=no pci=noacpi noacpi and noioacpi.

The only other thing I can think of to try is enable them in your BIOS then disable them in the kernal. Maybe that will solve the original problem.

Maybe some more details on HW, KM version, actual crash, etc. might trigger someone else who knows something.

Here's the original crash and machine info:

Sometime during the night though the whole box freezes and I have to push reset. I can't recover with Ctrl-Alt-backspace or ESC. Caps Lock doesn't even work, so this must be a pretty low level crash.

I've run memtest for about 24 hours with no failures.

The only thing interesting I see in the log files is that it looks like commercial flagging happened shortly before the last log in the mythbackend.log file. I also see errors in there reading:"ac-tex damaged" and "warning MVs not available".

Anybody know what these errors mean or how to fix them?
