Hello,

I can't get the TV to work on my Knoppmyth MythTV install. I have a brand new Hauppaug 150 card.

I have done the auto install.

When I am in mythtv and select "watch tv" the screen goes blank...

I believe I have not installed the drivers for the new capture card correctly. I see all sorts of postings but I have not been able to track down installation instructions for the Hauppaug 150.

Please point to some propper installation instructions and drivers....

Regards,

redbug2

OK, Followed link provided by kylez19... Links led me to http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ngLogFiles
which prompted me to run the command:
dmesg | grep "tuner model is TCL M2523_.*_E"
response is:
tveeprom 1-0050: tuner model is TCL M2523_5n_e (idx 112, type4)

That information suggested that I enter the following information into the /etc/modprobe.conf file:

options ivtv tuner=50

That seems to have helped, now I can see the chanels but they are awful fuzzy... Now what....?

Back to the troubleshooting pages. :-)

Look at the "frequency set" stuff on http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV and make sure that you've got the right one for your feed(s).

Next head to the http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=PictureQualityIssues page and go through the checklist there.

Also see the Upgrade Hints posting here (It's not just for upgrades any more!) http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108 under Known Changes and Known Issues.

BTW - Good work so far! :D

Ok, went back to the pages... Updated my 150 driver, tried messing with my Nivdia driver control... Changed frequency, changed cable...

I will keep reading, but I am getting nowhere fast!

Should I upgrade to the R5E50?

Thanks.

Well since you didn't say otherwise, I was assuming that you already had installed the latest version. What version did you install? You probably need to go through the driver upgrade on the http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv page if you are running R5D1 or before. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13537

tjc,

Sorry for ommitting the facts... I am new to this mythtv... A friend at work recommended that I start with the R5D1.

I purchased a generic capture card for $20.00 and did about 10 installs with various settings...

I just purchasd the hauppaug 150 last week since it looked like a pretty compatible card.

If the consensus is that the latest version is the best I would rather move to that. But, if the consensus is that the R5D1 is better because it is stable I will stay with that... I have zero saved content and re-installing the system is acceptable (and routine).

I have followed the link stated in the last post and did update the drivers. It still behaves the same way. The second link you provided stated that R5E50 is the latest and greatest, so, I am going with that now. I will reinstall and post the results.

Thanks for the help.

OK,

On the new release. Started having the blank screen issue. Set some settings and now it is working.

Unfortunately the remote stopped working.. It is an all-in-wonder usb remote that worked on the last version.... I will do some reading on the mythtv site to see what I can do. ...

I guess its time for a new thread on the remote issue.

Thanks for all of the support.

Sadly R5E50 seems to have a lot of trouble with remotes. See the upgrade hints posting for the "Known Changes" and "Known Issues". Hopefully it's just a udev related name change in your /etc/lirc/hardware.conf file.
