Usually you need to check into Pineapple.

Hmm, here's the link.

Search the Wiki (http://knoppmythwiki.org) for DVD Playback.

And don't ask here about playing back commercial (encrypted) DVDs. We are not allowed to discuss it here for legal reasons.

Thanks for the replies!
I still have the same problem after loading the libdvdcss2 code. When I play a dvd it starts to play for 1 second and then it stops. I am using xine and the error message is "the source can't read. Maybe you don't have rights for this". I get the same result if i use VLC and Noatun. I checked that the dvd unit was set to region 1. Is there so permissions setting or something that needs to be changed?
Thanks

I found out from a irc knoppmyth room that once the "dvd://: was added to the command in the gui, the dvd would play. Example - xine dvd://.

There are actually a couple ways to do this. The recommended xine commands are discussed in this thread: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13872&highlight=xine
Code:
xine -pfhq --no-splash --auto-scan dvd

You can also use a device MRL without the autoscan, although this is less robust:
Code:
xine -pfhq --no-splash dvd://
