After success creating a fully working SD system with R5D1 (Thanks devs and forums, but especially Cecil!), I created a new system for HD. With some tweaks, I got an AirStar HD-5000 from Mythic.tv up and running (GREAT store and GREAT product). I even moved my Haup 250 over so now I have cards for SD and HD in one system. My SD system used 3 160GB drives under LVM for all the content, but no content that I am interested in keeping. My new system has 1 320GB drive and some content that I would like to keep.

I would like to upgrade both systems to R5E50. I don't want to wipe my working system. My plan is to remove the current 320GB drive on which I want to save content and move a 160GB drive from my old system to fiddle with the new install what will become the MBE. After I prove to myself that I can get back to my current state with R5E50, I would like to transfer over the database from the 320GB drive and make a new LVM with all the extra drives. I would leave one drive in the old SD system and make it a front end that gets content from the MBE.

In general, what I am looking to do is to merge two databases from two functioning Mythtv systems. This seems like a database task, rather than a Myth task, but I don't know where to start. I know about the rebuild shell script where you enter the info by hand, but there are enough programs that it probably isn't worth the effort and the hand entered stuff doesn't match the guide listings, so I would get duplicates.

What do I search for? I have read about the backup and restore process during an upgrade and it seems like it should modifiable to merge databases, but I have not seen this tried. Has anyone done this?

Not that I'm aware of, but it shouldn't be hard. Basically what you want to do is extract only the insert startments from one of the DBs, and possibly only those for selected tables, and append them to the other mythconverg.sql file. The restore should then do the right thing. Let me think about the exact mechanics and get back to you...

I am trying to merge two master backends into a master and slave. While they are now communicating, I still can't see the recordings on the slave. Hopefully this will solve my issue too.
