Is it possible to have a MythTV backend, by default, start recording several Live TV streams at start up without having a frontend running and without setting up a scheduled recording? I cannot think of a way, but inquiring minds want to know. :wink:

You mean like "watch Live TV" where it's slices and dices at program boundaries? I think you could probably stunt it by setting up psuedo front end clients which made the appropriate live tv requests to the backend...

Yes to your question, but I may have come up with a solution. The reason why I said I did not want to schedule this is because I thought it would be a nightmare to set up schedules for EVERY program on a given channel. However, I now realize it does not need to be that complex. I can set up a simple custom "power search" for the handfull of channels that would need to be recorded. Something like this:
Code:
channel.callsign = 'KCBSDT'

seems to get the job done. Simple and clean. Love my MythTV. :lol:

Forgive me, but I have to ask the question: Why are you doing this? Just curious...

Not really for me per se. I work in TV and the show I work for is gearing up for a move to a new facility in the next 18 months or so. Right now they're making decisions on new equipment and systems. One of the engineers really likes MythTV (or at least the thought of it because he has yet to use it himself). We're looking into the possibility of using a MythTV system to record our "airchecks." Right now we have TiVO's doing some of this, but they are limited in their function/capacities. Anyway, we want to be able to record 5-7 stations (OTA and cable) 24/7 and MythTV should be able to do that nicely. With storage so cheap these days, we can "hold" a ton of programming, for say a month or so, and we can cherry pick the programs (or even segments of programs) we want to keep. It would be a "catch all" system that stores high quality video for us and allows us flexibility to deal with it as we wish.
