That's an X.org error saying that something's wrong in your xorg.conf file. Either connect to your box using ssh or open up a virtual terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F2) and have a look at your xorg.conf file. If you can't work out this problem yourself, post the xorg.conf file here and tell us what video card you're using. |

I have a Chaintech 7NIF2 motherboard, nvidia chipset. Everything was working relatively fine (no crashes in a while, occasionally it freezes for a minute but comes back). Then it locked up. I shutdown (from ssh using shutdown -r now, not a hard power down) and restarted, and got this error. When I try to run startx (login from ssh as root) I get this: Code: xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.5441 X: warning; process set to priority -1 instead of requested priority 0 X Window System Version 7.1.1 Release Date: 12 May 2006 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.1.1 Build Operating System: UNKNOWN Current Operating System: Linux mythtv 2.6.18-chw-13 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Dec 3 23:47:01 PST 2006 i686 Build Date: 07 July 2006 Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. Well the problem is that there's no framebuffer device called /dev/fb0 Quote: Driver "fbdev"
VendorName "All" BoardName "All" Are you sure that's the right setting. If you're video card is based on an nvidia chipset, normally the Driver would be "nv" or "nvidia" if you've installed the binary drivers. |

I have no idea. I never changed anything in there after installing, much less recently. How could it have gotten changed? How can I get knoppmyth to regenerate the right file? Can I do an "upgrade" from the CD to fix it, and will that wipe out my recorded shows? |

OK so I changed: Code: Driver "fbdev" to: Code: Driver "nvidia"
and all is well. I have no idea how it got messed up though? I don't know if anything else is now wrong in the xorg.conf file, but so far it seems to operating as before... |

Quote: When I try to run startx (login from ssh as root) I get this: Are you forwarding X and MythTV over ssh? Have you tried using '/etc/init.d/gdm start' instead of 'startx'?

Nope, nothing weird, just a pretty standard install. In fact, I dont think the gdm thing works anymore, either, in the latest version of knoppmyth. At any rate I fixed the problem. Still curious how it got messed up though.. |
