Ok, I've reached my frustration level. I have my system working fine with surround51 (analog not SPDIF) with xine. However, I would like to use the new internal player. I can only get it to work with the /dev/dsp as the audio output in setup. If I change it to ALSA:surround51 (or any of the myriad other syntaxes ALSA:Plug:surround51:0:0 etc) I get no sound at all on either DVD's or on recorded shows. I've also changed the mixer device to default from /dev/mixer.
Only ALSA:front works with the internal player. BUt of course that is just stereo like the /dev/dsp was doing.
I'm stumped.
Code:
/etc/asound.conf :
cards 'cards.pcm'
front 'cards.pcm.front'
rear 'cards.pcm.rear'
center_lfe 'cards.pcm.center_lfe'
side 'cards.pcm.side'
surround40 'cards.pcm.surround40'
surround41 'cards.pcm.surround41'
surround50 'cards.pcm.surround50'
surround51 'cards.pcm.surround51'
surround71 'cards.pcm.surround71'
iec958 'cards.pcm.iec958'
spdif 'cards.pcm.iec958'
modem 'cards.pcm.modem'
phoneline 'cards.pcm.phoneline'
dmix 'cards.pcm.dmix'
dsnoop 'cards.pcm.dsnoop'
default {
type plug
slave.pcm softvol
}
softvol {
type softvol
slave {
pcm surround51
}
control {
name SoftMaster
card 0
}
}
BTW : The softvol device and SoftMaster control are to allow me to vary the volumes of all the channels with one control when playing DVD's in xine. If I try to configure the internal player to use ALSA:softvol I get the same thing (no sound) as with surround51.
