Post subject: | Internal DVD playback |
Hi All -- Just upgraded to R5F1 and this is my first experiment in using the internal DVD player (pineapple is installed). Q: Does everybody else get smooth playback? I've tried both NTSC and PAL discs, and the playback surges about every second or so, like there's a bad/missing 3:2 pulldown or something. Should i be expecting nice smooth playback yet? The machine is a 3.0Ghz P4, Nvidia6200. Output is DVI to a flatscreen. With those specs, plus the fact that it can play back and de-interlace DVB signals, I don't think it's a CPU issue. Every other aspect of myth runs fine. Oh yeah - one other question while i'm at it --- how do you pick which particular modeline you want to use? My xorg.conf has all the modelines for the auto-probed resolutions and rates that my screen supports. I can change the bitdepth and the resolution i want to use at that depth, but how do i indicate which refresh rate i get? I"m sure i'm missing something really simple........ |

I have the exact same issue but with R5E50. My CPU is even faster than yours and I have the same vid card but it stutters with the internal player. It does the same thing with certain HDTV mkv and divx encoded avi files (maybe PAL?) but not xvid. Mplayer plays them all perfectly btw (haven't tried xine with anything except the DVDs which worked great). |

Mike Thanks Mike (greetings from Melbourne). - I'm not sure so i'll have to check that. I was going to rip the disk and see if that was able to playback correctly, but DVD ripping doesn't work either (just says it's waiting for a disk). cheers - j |

manicmike wrote: Have you turned dma on for your DVD player? If not, you will get what you have described. Mike Thanks mike. DMA was not turned on... turning it on helps things, but not completely. PAL disks play pretty well, but NTSC ones still have a noticeable surging. Ripping the disk and playing with the internal player still shows a slight, obvious surging, so I would have to conclude that the internal player doesn't handle different playback rates correctly. cheers - j |
