Post subject:  No sound in MythTV.....please help. [FIXED]

I got KnoppMyth R5F1 and installed it on my Captiveworks CW-3000HD box which is nothing more than an Asus M2NPV-VM mainboard using integrated Audio and integrated Geforce 6150 video. I reformatted and installed it on an 80GB EIDE HDD and am using a Hauppauge PVR-150 tuner with IR Blaster.

It installed OK and after a while figuring out the setup I finally got it to watch TV but I am having a few problems which I have been unable to solve.

First of all, my sound does not work at all. I first noticed it when trying to watch TV and it is also true when trying to play a CD. I know the sound is hooked up correctly because everything works in Kubuntu when I earlier tried installing Linux MCE. The sound just don't seem to want to work. Its hooked up through my speaker out port on the sound card to the RCA inputs on my TV.

Another problem I have is that the video seems to flicker a lot when watching TV.

and finally, I tried hooking up the MythTV Box to my Motorola DCT2224 Cable Box but the option is not listed on the IR Blaster codes. I tried using DCT2240 instead but the IR Blaster don't seem to want to work.

One more question I have is, I would like to hook up MythTV using a DVB-S Satellite Card to a Dish Network Superdish.....is this even possible with MythTV?

Please understand that I am new to linux so any answers should be as detailed as possible because I don't really know how to do anything in linux yet. Thanks

Any insight to these problems would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

OK....I think I got the sound issue licked.....I started a console after quitting MythTV and typed in "alsamixed" and unmuted a bunch of stuff there....Hope it still works after a restart.
Still having issues with the rest though unfortunately.

Anybody got any ideas about what I can do about the flickering videa?

Please do no multi-post the same questions under multiple topics. E.g. - http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15387

This is considered bad forum manners.

sorry....after I posted in the last forum I read that it was not the place to post these kinds of questions so I made one here which I hoped was a more appropriate place for them.

Speaking of questions, the changes I made in alsamixer were reset after I restarted MythTV. Is there any way to make the setting changes in alsamixer save so that I don't have to reset them every time I restart my system?

You'll want to run
Code:
alsactl store
after you make your changes. Also note, I run alsamixer and alsactl as root.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try that ASAP.
In the mean time I encountered another problem.
I tried to play a DVD in MythTV but it seems to either not play at all, or completely lock up the system every time I try to play one. I recall reading somewhere that I needed to download a plug-in or some sort to make linux play DVD's but I don't remember where I read it and I can't seem to find it now.
Could somebody please tell me how to make MythTV play my DVD's?

It is customary to start a new thread for new problems. Your original title gives no hint of your "new" problem and thusly will probably not catch the eye of others with similar problems. On the flip side of that, it would be bad form to post the same question in more than 1 of the forums.

A quick search should have come up with dozens of similar posts. Hint: search for "pineapple", and if you have specific questions after reading through the results start a new thread in an appropriate forum such as Hardware or General.

Yes, but the Superdish will not give you much, if you're trying to pick up anything on the dish sats using the DISH (circular) LNB and most are encrypted. For FTA, you will need a universal/standard linear LNB for say G10r, etc.
