Is is me or is MythTV a memory hog. I understand it's doing some relatively fancy stuff, but the memory usage is ridiculous! I have a dual AMD Athlon MP 2000+ system with 2GB of RAM, 2 36G hard drives in RAID0 for the OS and stuff, and a 500G for media storage and just after watching a show (on the frontend, a separate machine entirely) the memory usage indicates that the backend is using 1.9G of RAM and a little swap. This doesn't seem possible. Keep in mind this is only the backend I'm talking about. It's not running any frontend. Has anyone else seen this? The database is not huge and even if it was it shouldn't be using 1.9G of RAM. Any comments?

Keep in mine that Linux in general likes to fill up the RAM it isn't using with cache and buffers. If you run "free" you will be able to see actual usage
Code:
$ free
             total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:       1553248    1518264      34984          0      30792     888232
-/+ buffers/cache:     599240     954008
Swap:       444016         68     443948
the -/+ buffers/cache line is actual usage

Mythbackend doesn't generally use anywhere near that amount of memory. I suspect you are running a version which leaks memory - the uPnP code in particular has been a problem. If you aren't using UPnP with mythtv, then you may want to try running the backend with --noupnp
