I'd like to transcode HD recordings to around DVD/vob quality and size. I've been reading and I'm confused as the best way to go.

Myth2ipod works great in R5F1 and I'd like to use that later for my ipod stuff. The xvid encoding wiki looks interesting, but I don't want to mess up M2I functionality.

Nuvexport looks interesting, but from the Myth wiki it is only command line. Mencoder is the same.

MythArchive looks nice too, but I don't know if it will do what I'm wanting and so far I can't get very far.

Transcode to a mpeg4 file? I guess I could play with this some, but I haven't really done so in the past. Is this where I should look?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

if you're willing to experiment with shell scripts you can roll your own.
I created a script to export to .avi because ffmpeg didn't work in the
version of KnoppMyth I used.

Thanks. I tried both scripts and the x264 would work for me. 0k files were created and it completed without error. The XviD quality was very bad for me, so I've been working with the Transcode lately.

I might give them another try, as I have a lot more drive space now to play with.
