Post subject: | Local Channels not working properly in new version? |
I will do my best to explain this. Old version 5A26: Everything worked fine. New Version 5F1: Everything worked fine, except local channels would get some doubling, and not appear correctly. Tuner - PVR150 Back story: We have comcast cable, and when comcast came in local channels were always bad. Finally had comcast come out and replace cabling, and everything worked great. Troubleshooting: I tried fine tuning the local channels but nothing worked, I also went through the different troubleshooting tips listed on knoppmythwiki. I ended up reinstalling 5A26 and everything is working fine again, although I would like to upgrade to the newer version. Question: I am not sure which program is using a newer version that is probably causing this problem. I am not very familiar with all the different component pieces of knoppmyth, so I asking the experts. Any thoughts on this? Thanks Joe |

You mean ghosting? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghosting_%28television%29) It may be ivtv-related. Look here: http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Trouble ... e_ghosting Otherwise, it's most likely a cable problem - either a bad cable or possibly an unterminated connection somewhere. |

Did you follow the R5F1 upgrade hints? |

This problem reared its ugle head again, though I think I may have another piece to the puzzle. After being frustrated with R5F1 I went back to R5A26 when everything worked fine. Well with the guide data going away, I decided to try this again. This time I did an auto upgrade from R5A26 to R5F27, and everything was working great! Except when the auto upgrade occured it didn't recognize my entire hard drive, but since everything was working right off the bat, I decided to just do a fresh install, well know the problem is back again. I did go through the upgrade hints to no avail. So my question is what would be different in going from the upgrade to a fresh install? |

Your configuration. See the R5F27 Hints and the walk through on the BlackScreenWatchingTV page. Pay special attention to card types and frequency sets. Also make sure you don't have extra card definitions or other cruft. |

Well by going through, step by step! I was able to track it down, this was the culprit: Quote: 4) There is a known IVTV driver issue with some PVR-150 and PVR-500 cards glitching (tearing, pixellation) when using the default 480x480 recording profile and VBI encoding. Using a 720x480 capture resolution and/or turning off VBI is strongly recommended for these cards. If you change the capture resolution, don't forget to adjust your recording bit rates to match or image quality may suffer. You can find these settings under Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Recording Profiles -> MPEG-2 Encoders. You need to change all of the profiles, including Default and Live TV. You can also adjust your bit rates here for the higher resolution. For more details, see the postings by ethernut in this thread - http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13097.
I found it very odd it was only doing it on my local channels, but am very glad it is fixed. I only ended up changing the capture resolution. Thanks for your help, and keep up the great work! |
