Hi,

with R5F1 installed from scratch everything is working correctly (even ACPI shutdown/wakeup) *except* using the shell: I get warnings from man, perl, ....
they are like this:
$ man
man: can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct

$LANG is de_DE@euro

or this:
$ locale
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
LANG=de_DE@euro
LANGUAGE=de
LC_CTYPE="de_DE@euro"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE@euro"
LC_TIME="de_DE@euro"
LC_COLLATE="de_DE@euro"
LC_MONETARY="de_DE@euro"
LC_MESSAGES="de_DE@euro"
LC_PAPER="de_DE@euro"
LC_NAME="de_DE@euro"
LC_ADDRESS="de_DE@euro"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE@euro"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE@euro"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE@euro"
LC_ALL=

I guess the problem is:
$ locale -a
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_COLLATE to default locale: No such file or directory
C
POSIX

This leads me to believe that only C and POSIX locales are available, but not de_DE

I tried to fix this with
apt-get install locales
but this did not work because it needed to downgrade glibc which I did not want (hey, there must be a reason for the version of glibc being used)

Can anybody give me hint how to get rid of the warning when starting programs from the shell? Should I set $LANG to something else, or unset it? How do I do this? Or can I install the missing locale files somehow?

Thanks for any help,
jens

P.S: Although I've been using Unix systems as a (non-root) user for many years, I've never installed or administrated a Linux box before using mythtv...

I've got the same problem, can't "apt-get install locales", because of glibc incompatibility issues.

Anyone solved this?
