Just ordered a Nokia 770. It's got wireless, a decent sized color
screen, and runs Linux. It might be fun to port mythfrontend to it.
Has anyone heard of anything similar?

I got one at Woot a month back, and I really like the 770. It runs a custom variant of Linux, and there actually some people already working on a custom frontend. It's not up for our consumption yet, but check out gmyth at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmyth.

I've tried using the built in upnp aspects of MythTv with Canola, a upnp client designed for Nokia internet tablets. It finds the myth box and can list all of the recordings, but as of now is unable to transcode them to a playable format.

Good luck and please post any updates you find, I'll do the same.

have you tried mplayer and samba or nfs ?
That would let you watch video over the wifi connection.
I think the raw tv recordings might require too much bandwidth
but if you transcode them it might work fairly well.
I saw an mplayer port on http://www.maemo.org

I have a Nokia 800. I posted on how to watch programs on it to the MythTV mailing list. Should work well for the 770.

I put together a script to convert video to the lower bandwidth requirements of the nokia PDA. You can find it here:

My winxp box has access to /myth via samba on my mythtv box. I was able to access that content via orb on my pda and a relatives laptop. Supposedly it works on mobile phones. orb.com

With the small processors on some of the PDAs and phones they can't support the data rate of the recorded video.
