Just for grins I recorded the same show using both a PVR-350 (using the analog tuner) and Firewire (via a DCT 6200). This was the exact same show and number of minutes - although the show aired at 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm. The 10:00 pm showing was recorded with the PVR-350 and the 11:00 pm showing was recorded via firewire. Each recording was 1 hour and 5 minutes long.

The PVR-350 used about 2.4G. Firewire recording used about 1.5G. Playback of both sources look pretty good. Actually, I'm surprised that the firewire recording looks as good as the PVR-350 considering how much more compressed the file must be!

I'm just curious - is it possible to vary the recording quality when recording via firewire? And if you are just recording an analog channel does it matter? Finally, I have successfully recorded 1 HD channel via firewire (a local PBS station). I'd think it might be advisable to increase the recording quality if recording HD - is that right?

Any thoughts on any of the above most apprec.

Thanks,

Kevin
