Post subject:  Error displaying video
I am running KM R5F1. It loaded just fine and recognized my hardware easily. I am using a SS-2 DVB card (setup easily and scanned my channels in properly) and a GEFORCE 5200 128MB. I want to watch SD FTA channels on my monitor and am getting an error. My audio came thru once, but now I can not get any sound or video. I am getting an error "Error was encountered when trying to display video".

I did a search and was trying to read the /var/log/mythfrontend.log to determine the errors, and the file does not exist. It is probably an issue with my xorg.conf settings, but I have read until my head is swimming and cannot get this to display. My xorg.conf file is below:

Hi,

Frontend messages will be in /home/mythtv/.xsession-errors or something like that. You can also get these messages when you start mythfrontend from a terminal.

As for the cause of the problem, i don't know. Don't get blinded by the Xorg settings, these may have nothing to do with it.

This error is usually caused by myth waiting for a signal from the capture card. You can disable the problem by doing this:
1 turn the frontend off
2 Go into mythtv-setup, go into the capture cards, select recording options
3. un-tick "wait for seq start header"
4 Re-start backend

You shouldn't get the error any more

You could try running the frontend in verbose mode and this may give you some more information about what is going on.

mythfrontend --verbose


This will just output the details to STDOUT or the screen. To put the output to a file (I think this is right :? )

mythfrontend --verbose >[pathtofile]


Run the frontend from either of these commands and then try and watch tv, after you get the error immediately exit out of the frontend and look at the results.

Sorry to read that.

The problem is caused by a buffer problem which has apparently been corrected for .20.1. Since un-ticking that check box on mine, it cured the problem so well that I haven't had the error at all since (about 3 months).

It's almost certainly your TV card or much less likely is the video card.
