Following installation of R5F27 with Hauppauge PVR250 (conexant CX23416)

Install basically seamless...except audio on one channel.

No audio on channel 30 (us-cable frequency 259.250 MHz). Video shows no issues or artifacts...just no audio.

The 'v4l2-ctl' logs show nothing different from the adjacent channels. Previous R5C7 knoppmyth install still works fine on same channel, same frequency.

Anyone with similar issues or a solutions. Searched forums (knoppmyth, mythtv, gentoo) with some hints but no solutions.

Check with a channel editor and make sure you don't have it set to use SAP or something like that.

TJC,

Just want to clarify that the audio issue with channel 30 comes from an unaltered, standard install of R5F27 with my SchedulesDirect listings (0005155 channel set), which is the same set I used when it was DataDirect. I intentionally didn't alter anything during a test install. My R5C7 install is still chugging away on manual recordings until I'm happy with R5F27.

Second...not sure what you mean by channel editor? Could you steer me in the right direction...haven't done that before.

Thanks,

Squiff

For channel editors see mythtv-setup menu item #5 or MythWeb url http://YOUR-HOST-NAME-HERE/mythweb/settings/channels

Also lets clarify, did you do a fresh install of R5F27 (in which case you may have done the setup slightly differently) or a upgrade with a backup (in which case you may have failed to redo your capture card definitions or done something wrong while doing them). Did you do the recommended power off to insure reloading the firmware?

Before we go any further with diagnosis, I have checked my R5C7 build by mythweb and the channel 30 XMLTVID is '24777' with no 'fine tune' set.

I will boot up my R5F27 drive later today and I will check that there is nothing different or unusual about channel 30 on it and get back on this thread and let you know the results of the channel settings.

Just as an FYI at this point in time:

TJC -- I did a fresh install on a new hard drive (never had success with upgrades since 2004) and followed the 'reboot?' message and did a full restart before entering the initial mythtv-setup at first reboot following the root password prompt.

Prior to do a fresh install, I copied down all my settings from 'mythtv-setup' and used them as the basis of the setup for R5F27. I've never had this particular problem

TJC,

Channel 30 not having sound (Cogeco Cable Halton Region, Canada...to help with any searches) is related to finetuning of the channel.

The change for a PVR250 card is to leave the channel 'freqid' in mythweb at '30' and input a 'finetune' value of '375' for an offset of 375 kHz from the expected center frequency of 259250 kHz.

There is some googling results that show that the center frequency for channel 30 is 259625, which coincidentally, is 375 kHz different from the default center frequency. Hmmm...

Your advice, TJC, directed toward exactly the right place to fix this last (albeit minor) issue with my R5F27 install.

Thanks much,

Squiff

Did you check to see if you should be using the "us-cable" or "us-cable-irc" frequency sets? The differences are small enough that they "mostly work" but there are small differences. These matter more if your signal is a bit weak. Somewhere around here I posted a link to side by side frequency tables so that you can see where they differ. Channels 5 & 6 are the biggest differences, but there are others. Aha, there's a chart... http://www.jneuhaus.com/fccindex/cablech.html
