You can add a MAILTO="" to the /etc/crontab file to stop it trying to mail. There are some "sendmail" replacements that will write to a log, but I wasn't successful in getting one to work when I tried it. Admittedly, that was a while ago. There may be better stuff out there now.

If memory serves, if sendmail is configured in cron, but it isn't installed a job will stop if it tries to write to STDERR.

Alien, thanks for that post. I added MAILTO="" in /etc/crontab. I'm still getting a similar message from anacron, but I can also see evidence that my cronjobs ran. It looks like it isn't a fatal message.

I think for anacron, you have to add it in /etc/anacron.

Actually, looking closer at the output
Code:
anacron: Can't find sendmail at /usr/sbin/sendmail, not mailing output
It seems to imply that anacron is smarter handling this than cron. Cron exits. Anacron says that it is "not mailing output".

Either way, you should probably test by running a job that outputs to STDERR.
