| Post subject: | Playing with Virtual Box |
So, I stumbled across Virtual Box while reading an article yesterday, and figured I'd give it a try. I downloaded and installed it, and was looking for something to test it out with. Well, why not see how it runs KnoppMyth! So, I tossed the R5F27 CD in, told Virtual Box to boot that CD, and I have KM running in a window on my Vista laptop. Well, I figure, this is going to be choppy, but lets try it as a front end. Plugged in the IP to my back end, picked a recording...and wow. It wasn't quite perfect, but I was shocked at how close it was to playing the video without chopping...it was playing at about 95% I would guess, seriously, it was watchable, but slightly stuttery, like watching a feed over the internet that's just not quite fast enough...and this was over a wireless network! Needless to say, if you want to play around with KM, or any OS for that matter (though I don't think it yet supports MacOS as a guest OS) give it a try. I'm still amazed how well KM ran on it. Seriously...that says a lot for KM and MythTV in general. |
