Post subject:  Sci-Fi Channel snowy -- Virginia Comcast

I have a 1 PVR-350 in my box and picked up the channels with an autoscan.

For some reason the Sci-Fi channel is snowy, where every other channel is the same as it appears using the TV's internal tuner.. With the TV's internal tuner the Sci-Fi channel is clear.

Its on channel 61 and freq its using is 44525. Is anyone else seeing this?

thanks,
m

What else have you got on that video feed? VCRs and other equipment like that can generate interference even when switched off.

Also have you checked that frequency against one of the available TV frequency tables to make sure you're not off center? I've posted links to a couple different ones in the past.

Finally, why are you scanning for SD channels?

The cable comes in to a three way splitter, one line goes off to bedroom, one to pvr-350 and one directly to TV. The TV 4 av inputs -- two are in use.. one is a dvd player and the other is myth box. I am not seeing the snow with internal tuners on either of TV's.

It matches the other frequencies that I have been able find for channel 61 through google.

I didn't know there was another way to do it!

There are at least three commonly used frequency sets on US cable systems. This thread contains a link: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16681&highlight=frequency+tables

For channel 61 the differences are small but potentially significant: Standard - 445.25MHz, HRC - 444.0222MHz, IRC - 445.2625MHz

Using the proper frequency set for my Cable System (IRC) provided a noticeable improvement in picture quality.

While you're at this please take a look at the configuration walk through on the BlackScreenWatchingTV wiki page, which warns you against scanning for SDTV channels when you have alternatives. Scanning is always a chancy business.

Thanks tjc -- I had no idea about the scanning issue, I had to go in to the mythweb channel editor after my install to fix the channel "call sign" and "name" fields -- looking back , I now think I know the reason. :)

I am going to try the freq's that you gave by using the mythweb channel table editor.
