I just do a fresh install of R5F27 with a PVR350 capture card, i dont setup the 350 tv out, im watching tv on my plasma tv via the VGA connector.

Here is my configuration

Input:
Dish IRD --> SVIDEO out --> Pvr 350 svideo in.

Output:
VGA OUT --> LCD VGA IN

so far everything is right but the captions on the screen appears garbled, some words are not displayed and some are simply wrong, some letters are missing and some times just garbage appears instead of the text.

if i connect the svideo cable from the dish ird to the LCD TV i get perfect captions.

There is any command or tool that let me verify the captions from the command line ? i downloaded zvbi-ntsc-cc but when i run:

zvbi-ntsc-cc -c -d /dev/vbi0

I always get

VBI read timeout (ignored)

Since im deaf is really important for me to have good captions.
