I have my mythtv system running to the point where I want it. After each show is recoded I ask myth to transcode everything to the ipod format.

Now, instead of buying apple tv and hacking this to be an mythtv frontend, I want to keep using apple tv interfase to access the ipod feed that my mythtv is hosting and watch those shows that way. I am not interested in watching live tv only my recoded and transcoded shows.

Questions:

- Does anybody know how to modify the configuration in mythtv so the transcoding gives as a result a better quality file so I can watch it on tv?

- Using Apple tv, can i fw, pause, etc these shows?

I appreciate your help,

With pausing and ffwding on the Apple TV that will really depend on the program that is used to watch the show on the Apple TV.

As to changing the format, you will probably have to look through the script for that.

Hi,

Sure you can. I use this solution since a while.

You can pause FF and Rewind. the unit is so small that you can put it betweeen the wall and the tv (plasma or lcd).

Good luck

Generation 1 ATV is being phased out the Gen 2 has has been released. Gen 2 has an 8GB flash drive (not MAC OSX) whereas Gen 1 comes in the 160GB HDD that is based on MAC OSX. I decided to purchase a few 160GB systems before they are gone.

XBMC has a mythTV front end and is easily installed on ATV with a USB patchstick (Google and Youtube this). After loading SSH and XBMC on ATV, I also found a procedure and downloads to enable SAMBA on ATV. XBMC can play back the videos on the mythbox, because it has SAMBA running.

Patchstick Creation: http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/

ATV Samba: http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable_SAMBA_server

MythTV is offered as an app from XBMC. Having trouble configuring it, but it works as a good front end.
