As I understand it, both ACPI Wakeup and nvram-wakeupshutdown the machine when idle and turn on the machine just prior to a scheduled recording. I'm wondering how to adapt either method to place the machine in standby (is there such a mode under R5F27) and then wake it from standby. In other words, I don't want the box to go totally down to an off state, rather, I'd like it go standby power savings mode (HDs stop, fans stop, power is greatly reduced to CPU etc.) and then wake when needed. Based on what I'm finding, this isn't possible. Example thread here and also here. I'm thinking that swsusp2 is the app to do it. Am I correct? Is there something better/easier? Is anyone successfully implementing this on their mythbox? Thanks! |

Just to clarify: ACPI wakeup or nvram-wakeup are two ways to set the wakeup time before the computer is shut down. The backend triggers the shutdown based on it's settings. Mythwelcome is a useful "wrapper" around this functionality that makes it much more usable. Unfortunately, the way the backend handles shutdowns is not very compatible with suspend or hibernate. For example, the backend determines it is idle when there is no frontend running. To trigger a shutdown, one simply exits the frontend. If suspend or hibernate are used, the frontend won't start when the computer wakes up. I'm sure there are ways around this if someone is creative. I stopped looking because when I discovered my HW didn't recover after hibernate very well. I wasn't interested in suspend because I wanted the lowest power state. |
