Post subject:  nvidia mode pool ?

from http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Mo ... r_ModePool

Code:
 NVIDIA Driver ModePool

Versions of the Nvidia driver from the 8xxx series upwards use a built in list of modelines. You just have to set the correct modes for your display in the Screen subsection.

The format is simple, HorizontalResolutionxVerticalResolution_frequency

So the following line in your Screen subsection for your TV,

    Modes      "1920x1080_60" "1280x720_60" "720x480_60"

would yield 1080p, 720p and 480p outputs

    Modes      "1920x1080_60i"

would yield 1080i output.

These should be compliant for DVI and component output on all TV's so its probably worth trying before playing around with EDID and custom modelines.

is this correct? every time i try to include the _frequency (ie 50 as i live in australia), i get an invalid mode and the driver sets x to default. it works perfectly fine however if i just use the resolution (so 720x576). i wanted to try this to see if adding _50 would improve my picture. the reason for is that my tv standard needs to be set to HD576i.

of course it may not improve my picture at all... but i was wondering if the wiki page was correct.

im correcting from a gf7300gt via component (hence the need to use HD576i rather than pal.. as component cannot be used if pal is selected as the tv standard - well.. according to the nvidia readme it cant) to a crt tv.

There is an override you need to set. It should be discussed on that page or one of the ones it points to...

Yeah, I couldn't get that to work either. In the document it says "for 8XXX series and up" and my card is a 7XXX series. Maybe that's the reason it doesn't work for me.

As tjc mentioned, keep reading that document. I believe you are looking for "AllowNon60HzDFPModes".

Not exactly - "Versions of the Nvidia driver from the 8xxx series upwards use a built in list of modelines." - So the HRxVR_Freq directive *should* work with your 7XXX card (at least, it's valid with driver 9755 on my FX5500)

Odd -- mine would not respond to the "pool" designations for 60 Hz modes, let alone non-60 Hz ones. It just behaved as though I'd asked for a modeline that it never heard of. And I'm using the very latest driver on my GeForce 7xxx card.

im not sure if i mentioned it, but the xorg.conf file im using is only slightly modified to the sample.tv.out one included with knoppmyth.

can i ask you wrote the sample xorg.conf? a nice improvement may be to include the option TJC decribed, quoted out if necessary.

Check out this post in the feature request thread.

increasing the verbosity should show you all of the modelines that your TV is reporting as well as why it is rejecting modelines.

Hmm, I wonder if you have EDID disabled? I don't get any of the HRxVR_Freq modes verified if I have the "UseEDID" directive set to False ("No valid modes, using nvidia-auto-select" or some such).
