I am considering starting over on my myth box. One of my concerns is the modeline that I found for my plasma tv. It has been a long time since I did a fresh install. A few years ago I used powerline on windows to get a modeline and then inserted it into the precursor of xorg.conf. Have they changed the installation process? Would I still need to edit the xorg.conf file after installation?

Probably. Definitely save the old one.

Actually, even if you're going to wipe the disk I strongly recommend doing a standard backup and saving it on a CD, USB stick, removable drive, or another computer. Then you can always refer to it for any settings that you need to re-customize.
