| Post subject: | "Streaming" to network connected TVs |
Many new TVs can be connected to a home network with an IP address. This is what enables them to download content from providers such as NetFlix. That being said, I would like my next TV to display content directly from my HTPC through the network. Perhaps multiple TVs if the horsepower is available. That being said, I have two questions. 1) Has anyone had any success doing this? If so, please publish details \ lessons learned. 2) What are the requirements for the TV in order to receive and play the stream from the KM HTPC? It would be devastating to find out that you new $$$ PLASMA \ LCD TV can not receive streaming content from your HTPC through the network. |

To relate my own experience, I purchase a Sony 46" LCD that support DLNA via the network, however I could never get LinHES to work via the TV. I tried to set up FUPPIES which is included, but there were version issue and the like and I never got around to fixing it. At the time I was using 6.02 From my understanding all the devices support a standard called DLNA and FUPPIES is LinHES attempt to support this feature. I am unsure if it is fixed in 6.03 but there were bug reports around that have been fixed. |

Despite a google search, I was unable to find a good Fuppes description. A trip to Bestbuy indicates that 'Allshare' (a form of DLNA?) is touted as the mechanism to stream media directly from a PC to the TV. Has anyone had success with an Allshare or DLNA TV? |

I believe AllShare is Samsung specific and I'm not sure it it is truly DLNA. EDIT: I know I have an AllShare app on my Galaxy S (Android) phone. Never used it though - like most of us here, I prefer to only buy my media once... |

I bought a 46" samsung tv last month and the dlna found my linhes box and showed all my recordings and music with zero setup. The bad news is that although I could watch my recordings, ff and rewind didn't work at all plus there is no commercial skip. Good experiment but I went back to my myth front end. |

you should have upnp turned on in mythtv as well as in all of your routers and switches. for security reasons i had upnp turned off at the router. I dont like that I have upnp turned on but it makes accessing my network shares so much easier. |
