Hey mythic dudes! My system has a nForce 2 chipset, a Duron 1.8ghz, 256mb DDR400, a PVR-150, a pcHDTV2000, and a geForce MX440 configured to use XvMC. When I watch HDTV shows change the channels, resize the video to fill the screen, display OSD, or pause, the frontend frequently freezes and I have to restart it (just the frontend) and it's REALLY anoying. This is what the console shows when it freezes:
Code:
2005-06-15 16:20:34.879 prebuffering pause
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x2617f)!
2005-06-15 16:20:49.910 Waited too long for decoder to pause

Does anyone have any ideas :?:
PLEASE!

yeah I have an idea XVMC is horibly broken, and if you even browsed the forums you would have seen that.

unfortunately your box will not handle hdtv playback without it, so you are stuck with either wait for the developers to fix xvmc or upgrade your box.

Oh, I'm sorry, I should have searched more.
Do you think turning off XvMC and upgrading the video card to a 5200 would do the trick or would I have to upgrade the CPU to a 2500+?

The CPU bump is probably more important and +2500 probably won't cut it. Decoding and outputing the biggest HDTV resolutions takes a lot of CPU. I've got some concerns that the Athlon 64 +3200 in my new box is right on the line of what will work.

Yeah, that's outta the question. :x When do you think the XvMC problem will be fixed? Maybe in the next MythTV release :?:

I wouldn't hold my breath. XvMC has been flakey for a long time with no fixes in sight.

As for the processor, you can still pick up a Socket A Athlon XP in 3000+ or 3200+ which would get you into the ballpark. Your RAM is fast enough if the MoBo will keep up.
